Digital Photo Project #2

1. How will you develop an idea for this second project that differs from your idea for the first project?

With starting this project, my main goal is to push the limits of what digital photography can be. For this project I am particularly interested in Photographic sculpture as well as the idea of making/building photography rather than capturing photography. Focusing on the action of deliberately creating photographic material, I plan on exploring seriality. I am fascinated by the additive processes that can be controlled in digital photography.

2. Planned use of facilities, equipment, technology:

My Current plan is to use a wet-studio space or an area on campus where wet sculpture can take place. I will also be using a Nikon D3200 with an 18-55mm lens. Attached to the lens will be a wide-angle lens attachment.

EQUIPMENT LIST:

  • Nikon D3200

  • 18-55mm Lens

  • Wide-angle lens attachment

  • Nvidia Jetson

  • Stereoscopic camera

  • VR/AR headset or phone application

 3. Based on your first project, what sort of visual research will you plan to complete for this project? What artists were recommended to you in the first crit? Why? Are you choosing to explore them now, and if not, why?

This art process will need to be fueled by a culmination of photographic artist research as well as sculptural research. This process will be evolutionary and will not be constrained by the presence of finite concepts. I will be actively researching as many topics/artists as possible.

From my Critique notes the following artists/scholars were mentioned and will be researched:

- Tony Oursler

- Alex Alberro

- Lawrence Weiner

- Cindy Sherman

Other initial artists/scholars I am interested in:

  • François Willème

  • Osang Gwon

  • Oliver Herring

  • James Turrell

  • Letha Wilson

  • Adam Parker Smith

  • Elad Lassry

  • Harold Edgerton
